Worldview and Therapy
Our worldview colors everything we do, and as writers we find ways to express these beliefs in our works. For example, do we believe in God? Are people generally good or evil? Can people learn from their mistakes? Hopefully, our worldview has grown more complex as we experience life and learn from our own mistakes.
All of these will consciously or unconsciously work themselves into our works. Maybe we are not even aware of our own feelings towards certain issues, but writing helps clarify them for us. We can use writing to explore our own beliefs as well as issues we struggle with. Perhaps, even changing our viewpoint.
We can use our own emotional journey to inform our character’s emotional growth. Our own feelings can make the emotions in the story more authentic.
